International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples: Just a farce
– M. NEPOLIAN TUDU
In order to protect the existence and rights of indigenous peoples, the United Nations declared August 9 as International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. The main goal was the overall development of the indigenous people, including education and health. But sadly, after so many years of celebrating Indigenous Day, the whales are still the same as they were. Exploitation and deprivation of tribals is rampant. Today, education, health and culture in the mother tongue of the indigenous people are in deep crisis. They are hundreds of miles away from their basic rights.
Indigenous decades have passed, according to the UN declaration. Indigenous language year has passed last year. But where are the rights of the indigenous people today? Where exactly do the languages of the indigenous groups stand? If we do a little research, we will find that the language of the indigenous people and the rights of the indigenous people are in a deep crisis.
Lately, there is a lot of intoxication about Indigenous Day. Indigenous Day is also being celebrated officially in some places. But they are nothing more than showing people! The government has become a limitless field of its own propaganda. Arrangement of dance-song, sparkle of speech with a couple of receptions. Thus the question remains as to how the overall development of the tribals is possible.
Indigenous people have sent envoys on various issues at different times. But in fact that is the issue that is being completely ignored. For example, this year a Khariya tribal research student from Orissa was invited to speak on environmental protection. On the other hand, the right to forest is being completely cut off from the tribals in those areas. Arbitrary cutting of trees is going on. There is no form of administrative frown, no activity of the administration. What harm it can do to the environment or the plight of the indigenous people is beyond their control.
So in this Corona situation, when the world faces a terrible crisis; Then why such childish play with the tribals? Why not think of their basic ethnic philosophy? Why would their natural biological coexistence be destroyed? We face thousands of such questions.
If this thinking is really to sustain the existence and identity of the tribals, then why are they in this situation today? Why is there no financial announcement for the indigenous people from the United Nations? Why not see a splash of the program throughout the year? Will just celebrating one day solve all the problems of the tribals? Or is there some secret behind it?
Today is the time to think in this situation. It’s time to say something, it’s time to write with a pen in hand. Otherwise, even if Indigenous Day is observed year after year, no development will take place at all. Indigenous people will just dance and sing, their dance-songs will be performed in different places. But the profit will be nothing to them.
Therefore, in this context, it can be said that World Indigenous Day is nothing but a farce. This deception should be stopped immediately. Every head of state of every country in the world must remember one thing.
“Whoever you throw down will bind you to the bottom,
You left behind the one who pulled you back;
In the darkness of ignorance
Whoever hides behind;
There is a huge gap between your Mars drums
They should all be equal in humiliation “.
